Lagos

Lagos is a beautiful town famous for the dramatic cliffs of Ponta da Piedade and must-see beaches such as Meia Praia. Additionally, it's rich in history and culture, with a well-preserved old town, fort and church.

Tavira

For a quieter, more relaxed holiday, Tavira might be just the ticket. This sleepy town boasts a charming mix of Roman architecture and traditional Portuguese streets, numerous churches, and a stunning beach on Tavira Island.

Faro

As the region's capital, Faro often unfairly gets overlooked by tourists. However, it's a fascinating city with a rich history, interesting cultural venues, and a beautiful marina. It’s a prime spot for those seeking a bit more than beach days.

Portimão

This seaside town is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. It's home to one of the most famous beaches in the Algarve, Praia da Rocha, and offers a host of activities from jet-skiing to sailing.

Albufeira is an excellent option for families, with its numerous child-friendly beaches, water parks, and Family Golf Park. If you're looking for a mix of beach and culture, Lagos offers a family-friendly environment with lots to explore.

For a couples holiday

For a romantic getaway, consider Tavira with its quaint cobbled streets and river views. Vilamoura is another excellent option for couples, offering upscale resorts, marina dining, and golf courses for added leisure.

For friend trips, turn towards Albufeira and its vibrant nightlife. Alternatively, Portimão, with its myriad of water sports and leisure activities, is an excellent choice for an adventure-packed holiday with friends.

When to Visit

While the Algarve is a year-round destination, the ideal times to visit would be from March to June and from late September to November, when the weather is pleasantly warm and attractions less crowded. However, for beach holidays, the warmer months from July to mid-September are perfect. Even during the winter months, the Algarve's southern location ensures milder weather compared to the rest of the country, making for a reasonably good winter sun destination.
