Learn more about hotels in Borovets

Borovets is not just an average mountain resort, it carries a historical charm that dates back to 1896, making it Bulgaria's oldest winter resort. Originally serving as a hunting place for Bulgarian rulers, over the years, it has evolved into a sophisticated ski hub with plush hotels, vibrant restaurants, and lively bars. It's even played host to the World Cup Alpine Skiing rounds in the early 80s.

The ongoing Super Borovets Project intends to supercharge the allure of the town, with major developmental plans that include increasing the ski slopes to nearly 90 km, constructing 12 new ski lifts, and even expanding the town to span across the neighbouring towns of Samokov and Beli Iskar. Currently, the ski resort is home to a 6-person gondola lift and a mix of quick quad chair lifts, ski tows, and surface lifts. The resort also boasts night skiing, cross-country skiing, and extensive biathlon training facilities.

For history enthusiasts, the kings' hunting abode, Tsarska Bistritsa, is still preserved, whilst nature lovers can explore the poignant history of the Black Rock of Chamkoria, both within close proximity of the resort.

When to visit Borovets

There's never really a bad time to visit Borovets, courtesy of its humid continental climate that ensures snowy winters and warm, rainy summers. However, if you're chasing ideal weather conditions, spring (March to May) and autumn (September and November) are the best times. For winter sports lovers, January often boasts the most sublime ski conditions, especially around the 15th, while the warmest time of the year is typically mid-to-late August.

Borovets is also synonymous with safety. There are no major travel advisories or warnings for Bulgaria, making it a safe and welcoming year-round destination for travellers seeking an extraordinary experience.
