Our Top Hotels
Kolymbia, located on the enchanting eastern coast of Rhodes, is a place where history and natural beauty co-exist harmoniously. Originally a rural settlement named San Benedetto during the Italian occupation in the 1930s, Kolymbia has evolved into a coveted destination since its rechristening in 1961. With the boundaries of mountainous terrain to the south and west, and the Loutanis Dry River to the north, it presides at an elevation of 20 meters above the Archangelos Bay.
Evidence of human habitation here dates back to the Neolithic period, with various archaeological sites found in the vicinity. These locations, including the distinctive lower course and estuary of the Loutanis River, have provided intriguing artifacts, such as primitive stone tools and coarse, unglazed pottery.
When to visit Kolymbia
Blessed with sun-drenched summers, Kolymbia welcomes visitors with warm weather and shimmering beaches from June through September. The mercury regularly rises to a perfect beach weather gradient of 24°C to 30°C in July, the hottest month, which also boasts 31 sunny days and virtually no rainfall. Even the sea is aptly warm for beach lovers, with water temperatures hovering between 23°C and above from June to November.
Conversely, the chillier months, specifically January, see temperatures drop to a range of 9°C and 14°C. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Kolymbia promises a unique blend of natural beauty, historical charm and serene relaxation.
