Started as a tranquil fishing village, Ocho Rios — meaning "Eight Rivers" in Spanish, but somewhat misleading as, in fact, there are no eight rivers in the area — is now a bustling tourist hub that attracts visitors from across the globe. Its name is believed to have been a mispronunciation of the Spanish name "Las Chorreras", meaning "the waterfalls", which more accurately mirrors the area's stunning natural beauty.

With a fast-growing population and reputation as a burgeoning tourist hot spot, Ocho Rios has become home to a cruise-ship terminal, a world-class harbour for cargo ships, thrilling water sports, and enthralling attractions like Mystic Mountain with its Olympics-inspired bobsled ride. Its strategic location makes it easily accessible via either the Sangster International Airport or the Ian Fleming International Airport.

A trip to Ocho Rios isn't just about present-day attractions. It's a walk through history from the time it was settled by the Taíno tribe, through Spanish and British colonisation, up to the accelerated development of the 1960s brought by the St Ann Development Company and the Urban Development Corporation. Also known as a Hollywood favourite, Ocho Rios has been featured in several renowned films, including classic James Bond movies.
