Nestled in the northernmost tip of mainland Palawan, El Nido, covering a sprawling area of 465.1 square kilometres, is a 1st class municipality known for its stunning natural beauty and rich historical heritage. The town comprises a staggering 45 islands and islets, each exhibiting unique geological wonders. The highest point can be found in Cadlao Island, reaching a height of 640 metres above sea level, offering breathtaking panoramic views.

El Nido's charm has bewitched humans for thousands of years, with the earliest settlers dating back to 2680 BC. Chinese traders frequented the region during the Song Dynasty, enticed by its edible swiftlet nests. The town was founded on the small Tagbanwa village of Talindak, which saw an influx of migrants in the 16th century. Later in the 1800s, the Spaniards transformed this humble town into Bacuit, which was ultimately renamed El Nido in 1954, in honour of its iconic edible nests.

When to visit El Nido

El Nido's tropical climate is defined by two contrasting seasons; warm and dry from December to May, and wet from June through November. The temperature varies from a comfortable 22 degrees Celsius to a warm 33 degrees. The best times to experience the most favourable weather conditions are during the months of January, February, March, April, and November.

However, if you wish to savour this paradise without the bustling crowds, May and August could be your ideal choice, accommodating a slightly lower influx of visitors. Consequently, the highest influx of tourists is witnessed during the peak season, aligning with the most agreeable weather. Aside from weather considerations, budget-conscious visitors might consider October for their visit, which tends to offer the lowest average hotel prices and car rental rates.
